This new hymnal supplement contains more than 280 hymns, many of which were written by and for Presbyterians since the publication of The Presbyterian Hymnal. This hymnal supplement includes favorite songs not included in The Presbyterian Hymnal; traditional hymns; world music from Europe, Africa, and Asia; African American and Hispanic American music; liturgical chants from the Taize community; plus contemporary selections.

Here are all the hymns and songs included in SING THE FAITH.

COMPLETE LIST OF FIRST LINES AND COMMON TITLES

Definitions:

  • New hymn: A hymn in a “familiar” format, usually with multiple stanzas, oftentimes with a refrain, written within the last twenty years or so
  • Contemporary chorus: A refrain or song written in a “popular” style, sometimes with verses; also known as “praise and worship” music
  • Old favorite: Usually a familiar gospel hymn that has survived the test of time
  • Historic classic: A hymn of notable significance, often several hundred years old
  • Taizé community: Designates short repetitive refrains or songs originally written for use by a prayer community in France, usually by Jacques Berthier
  • Iona community: Designates various styles of music collected or originally written for use in a religious community in Scotland, usually by John Bell
  • Service music: Shorter works appropriate to specific acts of worship (call to worship, prayer response, benediction, communion, and so forth)
  • Songs indigenous to a particular country (South Africa, China, and so forth), tradition (Hispanic, for example), or of a particular genre (African American spiritual, for example), are so designated.
